What the standard addresses
The standard takes AI hardware and software products as its subject and deals with the compliance assessment of their cross-border data flows.
Hardware and software do not generate the same data paths. On-device hardware produces operating data, logs and after-sales telemetry; cloud services involve training corpora, inference inputs and account information; cross-border deployment adds overseas operations and support. A single company often runs several of these flows at once, and the transfer route applicable to each may differ. The difficulty is not in any one route, but in mapping product architecture, data categories and the jurisdiction of the recipient onto one another.
Group standards are administered by industry associations. Their drafting cycle is shorter than that of national standards, and they usually establish an industry position before mandatory rules are settled. They create no mandatory obligation, but they define the boundary of what the industry treats as compliant, which is useful where regulatory detail remains open.
Geason’s role
Geason is a contributing drafting unit to this standard. Drafting is organised by the administering body, and contributing units take part in drafting discussions and comment on clauses. The roles of administering body, lead drafting unit and contributing unit are distinct, and this page keeps them separate as published.
Cross-border data transfer is a routine matter in Geason’s work for AI companies: route analysis, security assessment filings, standard contractual clauses, and personal information protection impact assessments. Related services: Cross-Border Data and Data Compliance. Published research includes:
